Couples Therapy - Online

Overview of the programme:

Every relationship goes through difficult periods. The same arguments can keep coming back, communication can break down, or partners can slowly drift apart. Therefore, I’ve developed a structured, five-session online therapy programme called Stronger Together that teaches couples practical and essential tools to communicate clearly, manage conflict and reconnect.

As with my individual work, the programme draws on CBT and other evidence-based approaches as well as my experience providing talks and workshops on matters like conflict resolution, assertiveness, and emotional intelligence. Sessions take place online via video call, last 50–60 minutes, and involve both partners and me working together collaboratively. This involves therapeutic discussions, slides, whiteboard work, and at the conclusion of therapy I will provide a detailed handbook. The cost per appointment is €120.

How It Works:

The programme consists of five 50-60 min appointments, each building on the last.

  • Session 1: Our Starting Point. I get to know you as a couple, your relationship history, explore what’s bringing you to therapy, and set shared goals.

  • Session 2: Heard & Understood. Next session we focus on listening well, feeling heard, and learning to say what you need clearly and respectfully.

  • Session 3: Adult to Adult. Recognising unhelpful patterns of communication, how to notice and navigate common pitfalls, and learning to relate as equals.

  • Session 4: Fighting Fair. Spotting the warning signs in conflict, taking a time-out, repairing after an argument and solving problems as a team.

  • Session 5: Staying Connected. Understanding the role of emotions in a relationship, developing emotional intelligence, building everyday connection, and creating a plan to keep progress going.

FAQs

What can we expect in our first session?

In your first session, the three of us will meet and talk about your history as a couple and talk about what we can achieve going forward.

What is the difference between these sessions and traditional Couples Counselling?

These five sessions offer a form of couples counselling with a stronger educational focus. Unlike traditional couples counselling, each session has a clear topic and purpose, providing structure and direction throughout the process.

This approach has grown out of my experience working with couples and seeing how a lack of focus and direction can hinder progress, sometimes leading sessions to become unwieldy and less productive.

In developing this programme, I’ve distilled what I consider to be the essentials: the foundational knowledge and skills that are vital for a healthy relationship.

Can we continue to attend after the 5 sessions?

Yes, any couple who has completed these 5 sessions is welcome to book in for further couples sessions on an ad hoc basis.

Can a past therapy client come as part of a couple?

No, this would be unethical as it would represent a bias.

Can we attend the session from separate video calls?

Absolutely. This would be one of the benefits of remote/online therapy for Couples as it means they can attend from different locations. What’s important is privacy, confidentiality, good audio, video and internet quality. As with individuals, I recommend connecting via a laptop, desktop or tablet as this supports the use of power point slides, graphics etc.

Is this suited to couples going through a legal matter like a separation, divorce, custody issues etc.?

No, the purpose of this programme is to help couples who want to work on the relationship, stay together, set goals, communicate better etc. It’s important to note this isn’t mediation.

Do you accept card payments?

Yes, I can take payment via card, Revolut or IBAN.

What qualifications do you have?

I have a Diploma & BSc (Hons) in Counselling & Psychotherapy from PCI College & Middlesex University and received a 1st Class Honours award. I am currently completing a Master’s in CBT. I am a fully accredited member of the IACP (Irish Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy) and work according to their strict professional and ethical guidelines.

Prior to becoming a therapist, I spent over a decade working in the tech sector, having also completed a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science. This experience gives me a unique understanding of the pressures and challenges faced by people working in corporate environments. My technical background also makes me well-suited to running an online practice, with careful attention to privacy, data protection and GDPR requirements.

Can I email you if I’d like more information?
